What is the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and how does it affect your supports?

The NDIS sets price limits on most supports. We explain what this means for participants and how NDIS Support Planner uses it to project your funding.

What is the NDIS Pricing Arrangements?

The NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits (PAPL) is a document published by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) that sets the maximum prices for most NDIS-funded supports. If a support appears in the PAPL, providers registered with the NDIS cannot charge more than the listed price limit for that support.

The document is updated periodically — typically each financial year — to reflect changes in the cost of delivering supports. It covers thousands of individual support items across all budget categories.

Why do price limits exist?

Price limits exist to protect participants from being overcharged and to help the NDIS scheme remain sustainable. Without price limits, there would be no consistent benchmark for what a support should cost, and participants would have less clarity about how far their funding would go.

For participants, this means you can generally rely on the NDIS price limits as a guide to what you can expect to pay for standard supports. You are free to negotiate a lower rate with your provider — and many participants do — but you cannot be charged more than the NDIS cap for registered supports.

Good to know: Price limits apply to registered NDIS providers. If you are self-managed, you can use unregistered providers who may charge different rates — including below the NDIS limit.

What support categories are covered?

The NDIS Pricing Arrangements covers supports across all major budget categories, including:

Rates vary depending on the type of support, the time of day it is delivered (standard hours vs. evening or weekend rates), and the location (metropolitan, remote, very remote).

How NDIS Support Planner uses NDIS pricing

NDIS Support Planner has the NDIS Pricing Arrangements built in. When you select a support type — for example, personal care at standard hours — the tool automatically uses the correct NDIS price limit for that support. You do not need to look up individual rates or enter them manually.

This removes a significant source of guesswork for participants. Instead of trying to find the right support item number and price in a lengthy spreadsheet, you simply choose your support type, enter how often you use it, and the tool calculates your projection using the official rates.

Coordinator and Carer accounts can add custom line items with their own hourly rates — useful when a provider charges less than the standard NDIS price limit. This gives you a more accurate projection when your actual costs differ from the official caps.

Keeping your projection accurate

Because the NDIS Pricing Arrangements is updated periodically, the rates in NDIS Support Planner are reviewed and updated to match the current price limits. When you build a projection, you can be confident that the pricing reflects the current NDIS rates.

If your provider charges below the NDIS cap, your actual spending will be lower than the projection — which means your funding will last longer than shown. NDIS Support Planner gives you a conservative upper-bound estimate using the official price limits, so you always know the maximum you could be spending.
